CREATION – Day 5 and 6

week-of-creation Genesis 1

The Book of Genesis – It all began with God

Genesis 1:20-31

Chapter 1

So far we have learned that:

On the first day, God created the heavens and the earth.

On the second day, God separated the water on the earth from the clouds in the sky.

On the third day, God created all the plants and trees and

On the fourth day, God created the sun, the moon and all the stars.

Now let’s see what He created on the 5th and 6th day.

On the fifth day, God created all the fish and whales and the living creatures in the ocean. He also created birds to fill the sky with life.

Here is how the Bible tells us the story:

v20 And God said, ‘Let the water be filled with living things. And let birds fly in the air above the earth.’ v21 So God created large creatures that live in the sea. And he created all the different creatures that move everywhere in the seas. He also created all the birds that fly in the sky. God saw that all those things were good.

Have you ever been to an aquarium? There are so many beautiful fish there. They are big and small and all different shapes and colors. And in the ocean there are so many more that God created and live were it is very deep, that we cannot even count how many there are.

Can you just imagine what happened when God created all the birds? They were all flying and singing in the sky.  Some birds make a lot of noise like the crows and some sing beautifully like the canary. What a sight that must have been when all of a sudden all of them appeared!

v22 God blessed them. And he said, ‘Have big families and grow in number. So then you will live everywhere in the seas. And you will fly everywhere in the skies.’

Before the fifth day finished, God blessed all the fish and birds that He had created and told them to have lots more baby fish to fill the entire sea and lots more baby birds to fill the skies.

v23 There was evening and there was morning. That was the fifth day.

And so God finished the things He created on the fifth day.

On the sixth day, God created all the animals to live on the dry land. He spoke everything from insects to large animals into existence like spiders, snakes, lizards, frogs and so many more. He also created dogs, cows, and every other kind of animal.

v24 And God said, ‘Let the earth be filled with animals.  That is, every kind that lives.’ That includes cattle. It includes creatures that crawl. And it includes all kinds of wild animals. And it was so.

Remember God did not use His hands He just spoke and all these animals appeared.

v25 God made all kinds of wild animals on the earth. He made all kinds of cattle. And he made all kinds of creatures that crawl. And God saw that all those things were good.

God also created all kinds of wild animals like the lion, the elephant, the bear and all those you can see in the zoo. So all kinds of wild animals, tame animals, and small crawling animals filled the earth.

God made thousands of different animals and He knew before He created them just where they would live and what they would need.

Now God is going to create men. Everything God had made so far, He made out of nothing, simply by giving a command. When He said, “Sun!” the sun appeared. And when He said, “Fish!” the fish appeared. God is so powerful that He can create anything He wants just by saying it.

Before the sixth day ended, God made the first man. Man was a special creature, not like any of the others. So instead of speaking the word and creating him out of nothing, God formed him from the dust of the earth. Then He breathed life into him.

v26 Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image. Let people rule over the fish that are in the sea. Let them rule over the birds that fly in the air. Let them rule over the cattle and wild animals on the earth. And let them rule over the creatures that crawl.’

v27 So God created man and woman in His own image. In His own image He created them.

Very interesting that God said “Let US (more than one) make mankind in OUR (plural) image.” Here we learn that God consists of three persons. Did you notice that in the beginning the Spirit of God moved over the waters? And as we study the Bible we learn that God send Jesus His Son to earth to be our Savior. So when Jesus was here on earth, He was like us. So now we can understand why He created us in His own image. The Bibles teaches us about God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

God wanted mankind to rule over all the animals and birds that He had created.

28 God blessed the people. And he said, ‘Have many kids and produce many families. Live everywhere on the earth and rule over it. Rule over the fish that are in the sea. Rule over the birds that fly in the air. And rule over all creatures that live on the earth.’

God blessed the people He created and told them to have many children and to populate the earth. God not only gave instructions to man and woman, but He gave work for them to do and also responsibilities.

v29 God said, ‘Look! I have given to you every plant that has seeds. And I have given to you every tree that has seeds in its fruit. They are your food.

fruits and vegetable God gave us to eatGod gave all fruits and vegetables with seeds for us to eat.

v30 I have given all the green plants as food for the earth’s animals. They are also for the birds that fly in the air. And they are for every creature that lives on the earth.’ And it was so.

He also gave the same thing for the animals and birds to eat. So in the beginning we were all vegetarians and no one ate meat, chicken or fish.

v31 God saw everything that he had made. And it was really very good. There was evening and there was morning. That was the sixth day.

So by the time the sixth day ended God had finished all of His creation. Everything that God made was perfect because He is perfect. God examined his own work. And he saw that it was good. It was exactly as He had planned.
