Crucifixion English

Jesus was taken to Caiaphas and the Jewish leaders to be tried.

1 before Caiaphas

The Jewish leaders asked Jesus questions. They said that He had broken the law by saying that He was the Son of God. Jesus told them that He was the Son of God. They said Jesus was guilty and should die. (Luke 22:66–71)

2 before Pilate

The Jewish leaders did not have the authority to kill Jesus so they took Him to Pontius Pilate, who could sentence Jesus to die. The Jewish leaders told Pilate that Jesus had taught the people to disobey the Roman law. (Luke 23:1–2)

3 the crowd shoutiing

Pilate did not think Jesus had done anything wrong and Pilate wanted to let Jesus go, but the crowd wanted Jesus to be crucified. (Luke 23:14–21)

4 more trials befor e Pilate

Pilate still wanted to let Jesus go. But the priests and the people kept shouting that they wanted Jesus to be crucified. (Luke 23:22–23)

5 Pilate washes his hands

“I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!” All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!” So Pilate had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified. (Matthew 27:24–26)

6 Jesus gets the crown of thorns

The soldiers beat Jesus with whips. They put a purple robe on Him. They made a crown of thorns and put it on Jesus’ head. They laughed at Him and spit on Him. They called Him “King of the Jews.” (Mark 15:15–20)

7 Jesus is crucified

Many people followed the soldiers as they took Jesus to a hill near Jerusalem. They made Him carry His own cross. They nailed His hands and feet to the cross and lifted it up. They also crucified two other men, who were thieves – one on his right, the other on his left. (Luke 23:27, 33; John 19:17–18)

8 Jesus askes the Father to forgive them

Jesus prayed. He asked His Heavenly Father to forgive the soldiers who crucified Him. They did not know that He was the Savior. (Luke 23:34)

9 Jesus with his mother and John

Mary, the mother of Jesus, was standing by the cross. The Apostle John was there too. Jesus told John to take care of His mother, so John took Jesus’ mother to his home. (John 19:25–27)

10 Jesus gives up His spirit

Darkness covered the land. The Savior suffered on the cross for 6 hours. Finally His spirit left His body, and He died. (Matthew 27:45, 50)

11 the earthquake and the soldiers

When He died, an earthquake happened and broke huge rocks into pieces. A curtain in the temple, called the veil, was torn in two from top to bottom. The Roman soldiers who witnessed all this were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely He was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:51, 54)

12 the tomb

As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. (Matthew 27:57–60)
