THE RESURRECTION – Jesus is risen and He lives!

The resurrection of Jesus

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. (Matthew 28:1, Mark 16:1-2)

2 The angel at the tomb

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. (Matthew 28:2-4)

3 Mary Magdalene

A woman whom Jesus had healed named Mary Magdalene went to the tomb. She was surprised to see that the stone had been moved. Jesus’ body was not in the tomb. (John 20:1)

4 Telling Peter and John

She ran to tell Peter and John that someone had taken the Savior’s body. She did not know where it was. (John 20:2)

5 Peter and John at the tomb

Peter and John ran to the tomb. They found the cloth Jesus had been buried in, but Jesus’ body was not there. Peter and John did not know what to do. They went home. (John 20:3–7, 10)

7 Mary Magdalene crying

Mary Magdalene stayed by the tomb, crying. When she looked into the tomb again, she saw two angels. (John 20:11–12)

6 The 2 angels at the tomb

They asked Mary Magdalene why she was crying. She said someone had taken Jesus’ body away. She did not know where they had put Him. (John 20:13)

8 Mary M. seas someone

She turned around and saw someone. She thought it was the gardener. He asked her why she was crying. She asked Him if He knew where Jesus’ body was. (John 20:14–15)

9 Mary recognizes Jesus

Then the man said, “Mary,” and she knew it was Jesus. He asked her to tell the Apostles that He was resurrected. (John 20:15–16, 18)

10 The women tell about Jesus being alive

Mary Magdalene and some other women told the Apostles that Jesus had been resurrected. At first the Apostles did not believe them. (Luke 24:10–11; John 20:18)

11 Jesus appears to the disciples

Later, while the Apostles were talking to each other, Jesus came into the room. The Apostles were afraid. They still thought He was dead. (Luke 24:36–37)

12 Jesus shows His hands

The Savior told them look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” (Luke 24:38–40)

13 Jesus eats fish

And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish,  and he took it and ate it in their presence. (Luke 24:41–43)

14 Many come out of the grave

Jesus Christ was the first person to be resurrected. Many others were then resurrected and seen by people living in Jerusalem. Jesus had said, “I am the resurrection, and the life.” Because He overcame death, we will all be resurrected someday. (Matthew 27:52–53; John 11:25)

After Jesus was resurrected, He stayed with His Apostles for 40 days. (Acts 1:3)

15 Jesus was with them 40 days

On one occasion before He ascended into heaven and while he was eating with them, He gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. Because John baptized withwater, but in a few days you will be baptized withthe Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:4-5)

16 Jesus taught the  great commission

He told them to teach the gospel to all people. He also said that He would leave them soon, but the Holy Spirit would come to help them. (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:4–8)

17 Jesus ascends to heaven

After this, the Apostles watched Jesus go up into the clouds. Two angels in white clothes told the Apostles that Jesus would come back from heaven someday the same way you have seen Him go into heaven. (Acts 1:9–11)
