JESUS IS PRESENTED AT THE TEMPLE – Luke 2:22-40

When Jesus was just a few weeks old, his parents went from Bethlehem to Jerusalem, to present Him to the Lord at the temple.

Luke 2:22

2 Arriving at the temple

They did exactly what was written in the Lord’s teachings: “Every firstborn boy is to be set apart as holy to the Lord.” So they also offered a sacrifice as required by God: “a pair of mourning doves or two young pigeons.”

Luke 2:23-24 3 Simon meets Jesus

Simeon, a righteous man who lived in Jerusalem, was told by the Holy Spirit that he would see the Messiah before he died.

So following the leadership of the Holy Spirit, Simeon went into the temple courtyard just as Mary and Joseph were bringing the child Jesus. They brought Jesus to obey what Moses’ teachings required.

Luke 2:25-27

4 Simon takes Jesus in his arms

Then Simeon took the child in his arms and praised God by saying: “Now, Lord, you are allowing your servant to leave in peace as You promised.

Luke 2:28-29

5 Simon prophecy over Jesus

Simeon said that the child would bring salvation to all people. Joseph and Mary were amazed at what he said.

Luke 2:30–33

6 Simon and Ana

A widow named Anna also saw Jesus and knew who He was. She gave thanks and told many people about Him.

Luke 2:36–38 7 leaving the temple

After doing everything the Lord’s teachings required, Joseph and Mary returned to their hometown of Nazareth in Galilee. Jesus grew and became strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s grace was with Him in everything He did.

Goodbye, until next time; when we will learn about what happened to  Jesus when He went to the temple at 12 years old.

Until then, remember to say your prayers obey your mom and dad and do not forget to go to church and Sunday school next week.
