TRUST IN THE LORD! – Proverbs 3:5-6

Proverbs 3 vs 5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Did you know that King Solomon is the one who wrote what God told him in chapter 3 of the book of Proverbs? He is also the one that built the first temple in Jerusalem for the Lord.

King Solomon was a very wise king and there are lots of things we can learn from what he wrote. Some call chapter 3 in the book of Proverbs the “wisdom chapter.” What is wisdom? Why does God’s Word say it is more precious than gold and rubies? Why does His Word say we need it? How do we get it? How will wisdom affect our lives? The book of Proverbs answers all these questions.

One of the answers we find in verse 3:5 above. When we set aside our own ways and make a choice to let God’s wisdom direct our lives, we will live as God intended and enjoy His rich blessings. Good things come from following God’s ways and wisdom.

If we want God to direct our paths, we must put our trust in Him and trust comes easy when we know that God loves us.

If we are having difficulty with trust, we need to get to know God more. When we do, we will discover God is for us; never against us since, “we know that all things work together for good to those who love God” (Romans 8:28). And that “goodness and mercy will follow those who trust in the Lord all the days of their life, (Psalm 23:6). So we can safely trust in God because He tells and proves His loyalty in the Bible.

Then Solomon continues and tells us that, we are not to lean on our own understanding. Leaning on our own understanding (thoughts or ideas) can get us into trouble. We need God’s understanding and wisdom and not ours.

We are to acknowledge the Lord in all of our ways. God wants to be first in our hearts in every decision and direction we take. Is God’s will and His ways first priority in your life?

God promises if we trust Him, do not lean on our own understanding, and acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will direct our paths.

What a wonderful promise! It is God’s desire to lead us and protect us and that we experience a blessed life.

So let us remember these three very important teachings by a very wise king:

  • Trust in the Lord with all your heart
  • Lean not on your own understanding
  • In all your ways acknowledge Him

The Bible is a great book of instructions and we can learn a lot when we take time to read it every day and learn what the Lord teaches.

 Children Studying the Bible English

King David, Solomon’s father wrote: “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You,” (Psalm 119:11). David taught his son this verse, and we should also memorize it, so we will not forget to honor God in everything that we think, say and do.
