WHAT IS THE BIBLE?

What is the Bible

The Bible is the Word of God. Did you know that it was written over a period of about 1500 years from 1450 B.C. (Before Christ) to about the year 95 A.D. (which means after Christ).

 Holy Spirit and Bible

The Bible was written by over 40 different men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit.

The men who wrote the Bible were shepherds, fishermen, and military men. There were kings, a prime minister, and a royal cupbearer. There was even a doctor, a tax collector, and a tentmaker among so many other people from many different walks of life.

 OT and NT

There are 66 Books in the Bible: 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament.

The Bible was written in three languages: Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. Today the entire Bible is translated into more than 530 languages and some parts of it into more that 2800 languages. I bet you did not know that there were so many languages in the entire world!

 Best Seller

And one more thing, did you know that the Bible is the best-selling book in the whole wide world?

Do you believe the Bible? I am sure you do. It is a very special book with messages from God to reveal Jesus Christ as our Savior.

 Bible open

From Genesis, the very first book – to Revelation, the last book, the purpose of the Bible is to reveal Jesus Christ to us. In John 5:39 Jesus himself says, “These are the Scriptures that testify about me.”

But what can we say to people who just don’t believe the Bible is the word of God? Let’s look up some Bible verses that will help us understand the significance and truth about the Bible.

 Studying the Bible

2 Timothy 3:16-17, tells us that Scripture comes from God and that it is good for teaching, reprimanding, correcting, training and giving us knowledge.

The Bible is the living Word of God and the Holy Spirit helps us understand it when we have a desire to study and learn more about it.

The Bible is Truth—the ultimate Truth that can never be changed and that will never end.

 His word is truth

Jesus said that God’s word is truth (John 17:17), and that His words will never end. (Mark 13:31)

God’s Word is our guide in life, but it does us no good if we don’t know what it says. That’s why it is important to read and study the Bible and as we do, Jesus will help us to be more:

Traits 2If we hide God’s words in our mind it is going to be much easier for us not to sin against God because we love Him and want to obey Him. Here are some ways the Bible will help us:

 light shining (E)

God’s Word is like a lamp, a light to guide us. The closer we are to that light, the better we can see what is right and what is wrong. The closer we are to that light, the easier it is for us to follow God, and be protected from turning towards sin. (Psalm 119:105)Pure heartWe should obey God and ask Him to give us a pure heart. (Psalm 51:10)

 No to sin equals victory

The Bible helps us to say no to sin when we are tempted, because God gives us victory over sin through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57)
