ABOUT LYING – Proverbs 12:22

The Lord hates those who tell lies, but He is pleased with those who do what they promise. (Proverbs 12:22)

Do you know what it means to tell a lie? A lie is a story that isn’t true.

Why do kids lie? Sometimes they tell a lie when they are afraid that they might get in trouble for what they have done, which was not good.

Sometimes kids want to make up an unkind story to get others in trouble, when the Bible tells us to: Be kind and loving to each other. Forgive each other just as God forgave you in Christ. (Ephesians 4:32)

The bad thing is that once you start telling lies, you get into a bad habit and start telling more lies, which will harm you and other also.

Lying damages our relationship with God, because, our goal in life is never to say think or do anything that offends Jesus, our Savior and best friend.

God doesn’t want you, or anyone else, to get hurt. So God always wants you to tell the truth.

When you tell the truth to your parents and your friends, it makes you feel good inside and your family and friends will know they can trust you, and believe what you say.

Now let’s talk about a few things:

Have you ever lied to keep from getting into trouble? We all lie in our lifetime, but we need to remember that there is one that knows everything and that is God. We cannot hide anything from Him and we should not lie.

Have you ever lied and blamed someone else when it was really your fault? How did you feel? Did you end up telling the truth and asking for forgiveness?

Have you ever said that you would do something and didn’t do it? Well that is lying also because you did not keep your promise. When we tell someone that we are going to do something we should do it and not just tell them yes, because we want them to quit asking us.

How do you think Jesus feels when you lie? Well, instead of honoring Him you are obeying Satan, who is the father of lies.

Have your parents ever found out that you where lying? What happened? I bet that you got into big trouble and got punished – right?

Is lying worth the consequences? No, it is much better if we tell the truth even if we have to be punished for disobeying or something we did wrong.

Why is it important that we tell the truth to each other? First because God hates lies and second because if we keep lying people are not going to believe us anymore and it will take a very long time for them to trust us again.

What happens between you and God when you lie? Well lying is a sin and the Bible tells us that if we have sin in our heart that God will not hear our prayers – and that is something we don’t want to happen. We want God to be happy with us always.

Do you need to ask God to forgive you for lying? Yes, we all do and if we confess our sins, He will forgive your sins. You can trust God. He does what is right and He will make you clean from all the wrongs you have done.  (1 John 1:9)

Do you need to ask someone else to forgive you for lying? Yes, if you have lied to someone else you need to ask them for forgiveness. It might be a hard to do, but when you do, you will feel much better and very relieved.

The Lord promises to be a friend to those who can be trusted. Do you want to be a friend of the Lord? What must you do? You must obey your parents and your teacher and other adults that care for you and love you.

Satan is called the “father of lies.” You cannot trust or believe anything that Satan says or does.  Now, God only speaks what is right and true and it is impossible for Him to lie (Hebrews 6:18). So God can be trusted and honest people can be trusted but liars and dishonest people cannot be trusted.

Remember, the Lord hates those who tell lies, but He is pleased with those who do what they promise, (Proverbs 12:22). We can fool one another but we can never fool God. He always knows when we are telling the truth and when we are lying.

What do you want to do? Be God’s child or be disobedient and a liar and belong to Satan?

God loves you and He sent Jesus to pay the price for our sins on the cross. It is a free gift that you can accept or reject. It is up to you, so please think about it.
